About
River Kid Recovery

My name is Jess, and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor with PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia). I hold a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Bachelor of Counselling, and a Diploma of Counselling.River Kid Recovery honours where I come from — my early life began on the banks of the Tweed River, where I grew up in a forgotten, rundown caravan park. It was a place that slipped through the cracks — marked by poverty, pain, and survival. We were known as the river kids.My early life was shaped by trauma, grief, and adversity. These experiences could have broken me — but instead, they became the foundation of my purpose.Today, I’m a counsellor who brings not just professional training, but lived experience. I know what it’s like to carry the weight of a hard beginning. That’s why I walk alongside others with authenticity, compassion, and deep respect. At River Kid Recovery, healing isn’t about fixing what’s broken — it’s about honouring your story, reconnecting with your strength, and finding your way forward. You don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to help you navigate the river of your own recovery — with someone who truly gets it.

Counselling

Life can be overwhelming — filled with loss, anxiety, relationship struggles, or just a deep sense that something isn’t quite right. Counselling offers a place to be heard without judgement. I work alongside you to explore what’s going on beneath the surface and help you make sense of your experience. Together, we’ll identify your strengths and move toward meaningful change — at your pace, on your terms.

Psychotherapy

For those ready to go deeper, psychotherapy offers a space to untangle long-standing patterns, trauma, and emotional pain. This is a more in-depth process that supports you in understanding how your past has shaped your present — and how you can reclaim your future. Using a relational and trauma-informed approach, I help you connect with your inner resources and rediscover your sense of self.

Supervision

I offer clinical supervision for counsellors, psychotherapists, and other helping professionals. My supervision style is reflective, collaborative, and grounded in both clinical theory and lived experience. Whether you’re just starting out or are an experienced practitioner, supervision is a space to grow your skills, explore challenges, and stay aligned with your values.

Contact

Asking for support isn’t always easy — but it can be the first step toward real change. Whether you're facing something big or just need someone to talk to, I'm here to listen. You don’t have to go through it alone.

Thanks!

River Kid Recovery acknowledges the Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay/Gomeroi peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and practice today. I also honour the Bundjalung Nation — in particular the Minyungbal people — whose lands along the Tweed River shaped my early years and connection to Country. I recognise the unbroken connection that First Nations peoples have with land, waters, skies, and culture. I pay my deepest respects to Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who visit this site. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
